gardyneHOLT achieves carboNZero certification

“Do your little bit of good where you are; it's those little bits of good put together that overwhelm the world.” – Desmond Tutu.

At gardyneHOLT we want to play our part in preserving this planet for future generations, and it is with this in mind that we’re pleased to announce that our firm recently achieved carboNZero certification.

General Manager Malcolm Dale says developments in communication technology are one way to dramatically reduce waste and energy consumption in day-to-day business, if used intelligently.

“We see New Zealand and carboNZero have the potential to be an environmental leader and certification authority worldwide, but we know that it requires a commitment from people like us, not just at a Government level, but at a personal and business level as well.”

As a mid-sized brand design firm in Auckland, with specialist skills in web design and programming, and in wine label design, the firm has a large number of clients with a very public face who go to extraordinary lengths to be good citizens.

“We are ‘design partners’ to our clients and we felt that achieving carboNZero certification is one more way to align ourselves with the philosophy and culture of our clients.”

Even though gardyneHOLT is mid-sized brand design firm, its emissions amount to 23.2 tons for one year (due to activities such as freight, waste, electricity and travel).

As part of the certification process, gardyneHOLT developed a GHG emissions reduction plan. Some projects in this plan include:

  • Reduce electricity emissions by 5%
  • Reduce international air travel 10%

The firm has offset its other emissions through the purchase of carbon credits from the Tararua TrustPower wind farm.

“Imagine what a huge difference we could make if everybody, no matter how big or small, did their bit.”
